Warsaw - the start of our adventure

We started our Eastern European trip on June 24th in Warsaw , Poland. Warsaw suffered heavy damage during World War II with the Germans virtually obliterating it after the Warsaw Uprising in 1944. The Old Town was historically reconstructed and is surrounded by 14th and 15th century walls. It is pleasant to spend time there, as it is closed to all vehicular traffic.

We visited the Lazienski Park where they hold open-air Chopin concerts, the Jewish Quarter, the Royal Road and the Warsaw Ghetto. We also visited the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier where a wreath laying was taking place.

One evening we visited a Polish home. Here we learned a Polish folk dance and shared a homemade Polish meal.
